Cholesterol (especially LDL*) tend to get into macrophages which migrate into blood vessels. Macrophages with cholesterol cannot get out of the vessels and stay there which causes a lipid mass in arteries. That causes atherosclerosis.

- Poor sanitation and hygiene

- Environmental pollution

- Risks at career place

- Social and cultural rituals

5. Genetic risk factors – these factors occur due to individual’s genes. Some diseases and characteristics are inherited from individual’s parents. For example, Thalassemia, sickle cell anaemia. Some diseases may occur due to the mutation of individual’s genes. For examples, color blindness, Tay-sachs disease and phenylketonuria.
