First aid refers to the quick and ready administration of basic medical help given to victims until emergency medical care can be given to a victim. It usually occurs when a person is suffering from a sudden illness or injury (e.g. choking, drowning). The aim of first aid is to preserve the victim’s life while preventing the condition from worsening and eventually promote a person’s survival or total recovery. All persons should be aware and be knowledgeable about first aid care to be able to help when the need arises.
