Eugene V. Debs was an individual who felt that the American capitalist system was extremely unfair to workers. Debs felt that the low wages, long hours, and unsafe working conditions represented how evil and corrupt the capitalist system was. This is why he was in favor of socialism.

Debs gained support from some labor union members and other advocates of socialism. He would run for president in the US during the early part of the 20th century. However, he would never receive more than roughly 1 million votes. He would come in dead last in pretty much every attempt he made at becoming president.
