Read the excerpt from My Story Another time he went to see about extending the route of the Day Street bus. Black people in a li

ttle community on the other side of the Day Street Bridge had to walk across the bridge, about half a mile, to get to the bus. Mr. Nixon went down to the bus company to protest. He was always going down to the bus company to protest; sometimes he went by himself, sometimes he took someone with him. He himself did not ride the buses—he had his own car; but he was acting on behalf of the community. The bus company told him that as long as the people were willing to walk the half mile and then pay to ride the rest of the way downtown, they had no need to extend the bus line. Which correctly describes a cause-and-effect relationship in this excerpt?

Answer:

 • Cause: People had to walk across a bridge to catch the bus.
 • Effect: Mr. Nixon protested to the bus company.

Explanation:

Mr. Nixon protested against a bus company. This protest was caused because people in one city had to cross a bridge to catch the bus. This is the cause and effect relationship described in this excerpt.

In other words, one bus company did not put enough bus stops in a city and this caused residents discomfort causing them to cross the bridge in order to perish the bus. This disagreement was the cause of a protest (effect) made by Mr. Nixon

How does Kennedy use rhetoric to advance his purpose?
allochka39001 [22]

Answer:

By the rhetoric of talk or persuasive language, Bobby Kennedy advances to the American individuals, right off the bat to the dark individuals to not look for retribution and savagery against white individuals, but instead expand sympathy and understanding and a craving to live respectively to both highly contrasting individuals.

Concerning parallelism, in a similar vein, he says that what we don't require is division, brutality and disdain yet love and sympathy so he is differentiating the two by creating them both with their outcomes in a parallel design.
