I believe the answer is: his defeat of Stephen Douglas in the 1858 Senate race in Illinois

The defeat happened after the infamous lincoln-douglas debate in the state of illionis, which includes a back and forth debate regarding slavery. Lincoln did not obtain enough supports in the state of illinois, but his view is supported by majority of people in the rest of northern states, which lead to the rise of his popularity during the presidency.

Explain how we should respond to sovereignty as an attribute of God? Use complete sentences.
Tcecarenko [31]

Answer:

is this for school?

we should respond to sovereignty by fearing God, if you read the bible it will tell you: to fear the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. To fear him is to respect him. we should thank him every day in prayer, and we should do it multiple times. we should live by his rules. you will mess up from time to time but you should try to repent and that means to try not to do it again or to try and get better. most of all we should Love God more then we Love anything else and we should Love every one the way we love ourselves.

Describe ONE way in which Akbar’s response to religious diversity compared to the practices of the Mongols during the 13th centu
kodGreya [7K]

Answer:

- 'While Genghis Khan was attempting to set up his government, Akbar got consultation from the Chinese and Islamic scholars and also initiated a policy declaring the religious tolerance across his empire in order to make the trade safer for traders as well as merchants.'

Explanation:

The above description aptly portrays how Akbar believed in accepting and giving respect to other religions as well unlike the Mongols during the 13th century. Except for this issuing of his policy of religious tolerance, while expanding his empire, he even married a Hindu girl i.e. 'Jodha' and gave her equal respect and dignity to pursue her religions without any restrictions. These things show that Akbar was believed in secularism.

Describe the case of Charles Hester
VLD [36.1K]

Answer:

In August of 1989, an Ohio jury found Hester guilty of the aggravated murder of his wife, Janis Hester, and sentenced him to life in prison. After the sentence, Hester filed a petition for post-conviction relief pursuant to Ohio on the ground that his right to a speedy trial had been violated under the Constitution and under state law.

The trial court denied this petition on the basis that this issue could be raised only at trial or on appeal. Hester filed a direct appeal and the State Court of Appeals affirmed his conviction. Hester also filed a motion for a new trial pursuant to Ohio, which the magistrate judge noted in his Report and Recommendation has not yet been ruled upon. The record also contains a delayed appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court. However, the state supreme court overruled Hester's motion for leave to appeal, without comment or discussion of the merits of his claims.

The matter was referred to a magistrate judge, who determined that Hester had "waived" certain of his ineffective assistance of counsel claims and his claim of abuse of discretion by the trial court. The magistrate judge also found that, notwithstanding his failure to exhaust certain claims of prosecutorial misconduct, the exhaustion requirement should be excused with regard to Hester's claims surrounding the statements of Thornton and Thomas.
