Cells contain many receptors integrated into their membranes. They also communicate to other cells through secretion of signalling molecules.

It is very important for cells to be able to communicate with each other to maintain a single cohesive organism. If our cells didn't work together and communicate we would be a mass of cells rather than an organism of cells working together to serve a common purpose.

hope this helped :) if you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer them for you

Explain how hypertension, heart disease, and stroke are related.
Svet_ta [14]
Hypertension is another term for high blood pressure. This occurs when there is too much pressure put on the blood vessels. The heart gets affected because it is pumping against the pressure, which causes strain on the heart. This can cause thickening of the heart walls, which can lead to other heart problems.

Stroke occurs when there blood supply to the brain is reduced or obstructed. This deprives the brain of oxygen and other nutrients. The occurrence of stroke increases with blood pressure because there is persistent pressure on the vessels which can ultimately lead to stroke.

A geneticist discovers that two different proteins are encoded by the same gene. One protein has 56 amino acids, and the other h
sergeinik [125]

Answer:

The same gene encodes both proteins by using different combinations of exons in the pre‑mRNA via alternative splicing.

Explanation:

According to the question, two different proteins (one with 56 amino acids and the other with 82 amino acids) are found to be encoded by the same gene. This is possible due to a process called ALTERNATIVE SPLICING.

Alternative splicing is a phenomenon whereby the protein-coding region of a gene called EXON is manipulated in such a way that variety of proteins emanate from a single gene. This manipulation includes the removal or inclusion of EXONS in the gene, so as to give rise to different combinations of mRNA, hence, different proteins will be translated from the different mRNA from the same gene.

In this case, exons were removed from one mRNA to have lesser amino acids (56) in the translated protein while exons were included in the other mRNA to have more amino acids (82).
