What your doing is setting up a proportion that of the windows(18x11) dimensions and the buildings(108xW) dimensions.
So it would be 18/11=108/x
you would cross multiply so you would have 11x108 (1188)= 18x
Divide by 18 so x=66

Answer:

66 ft.

Step-by-step explanation:

It is given that the windows on a building are proportional to size of the building.

Height of each window = 18 in

Width of each window = 11 in

Height of the building = 108 ft

Let the width of the building be x.

Since windows on a building are proportional to size of the building, therefore

\dfrac{18}{11}=\dfrac{108}{x}

On cross multiplication we get

18\times x=108\times 11

Divide both sides by 18.

x=\frac{108\times 11}{18}

x=66

Therefore, the width of the building is 66 ft.

If the Pacific plate moves around 5cm a year how long will it take Los Angeles to move one kilometer?
mr_godi [17]
We need to work with the same units, so first, we convert 1 km to cm.

1 km = 1000 m
1 m = 100 cm
1 km = 100,000 cm

Now we divide 100,000 cm by 5 cm.

\dfrac{100,000~cm}{5~cm} = 20,000

Answer: It will take 20,000 years.

What is the greatest common factor of 72^2y and 18xy?
sineoko [7]
The GCF of 18 and 72 would be the first step.
the gcf is 18

So we we now have 18 (x^2y)(xy)
factor both variables
18xy would be the gcf

5x + 2y = -5<br> X + 3y = 1
balu736 [363]

Answer:

(-17/13, 10/13)

Step-by-step explanation:

Next time, please include more info regarding what you're supposed to do.  I will assume that the instructions said "solve this system of linear equations using elimination by addition and subtraction."

Multiply all three terms of the second equation by -5.  Then the system looks like:

5x + 2y =     -5

-5X + -15y = -5

Next, combine these two equations:

5x + 2y =     -5

-5X + -15y = -5

----------------------

       -13y = -10

Dividing both sides by -13 yields y = 10/13.

Substituing 10/13 for y in the second equation, we get:

x + 3(10/13) = 1

Multiplying all three terms by 13 eliminates fractions:

13x + 30 = 13, or 13x  = -17.  Then x = -17/13, and the solution is

(-17/13, 10/13)
