<span>North-easterners welcomed protective tariffs and were eager to tax European imports. On the other hand, South and West, who did not depend on manufacturing, weren't as eager to tax the European imports.

Scoot v Sanford stated that slaves were not citizens and therefore could not expect protection from federal government or courts and that congress could not ban slavery. Basically encouraged the civil war to happen.
