Aside from an article published in the Communist newspaper Pravda about the capture of Auschwitz by the Red Army in January 1945, Russia doesn't really seem to care about its role in the liberation of the concentration camps. The Holocaust Remembrance Day is barely celebrated in Russian public life.
In some states, particularly in Texas, and in *some* companies, Juneteenth is recognized as it should—a National Holiday—with employees having time off, etc. Deep, down, the systemic racism still in place within our country is keeping the mass celebration of Juneteenth in a box unlike traditionally “white” holidays such as Independence Day, etc. While there is still work to do, I believe that if there is still pushing, that one day, Juneteenth WILL be a celebrated National Holiday, just as others are. I know this is a simply answer, but a complex one to resolve.
