Henrik Ibsen used short, staccato-like sentences to represent realistic language in Hedda Gabler.
Ibsen was a Realist, which means that he tried to do everything in his power to make his texts portray the spirit of the era he lived in. One of the ways to do that is through speech that characters deliver in his works, as is the case in Hedda Gabler, one of his most famous works.
