This question refers to the Iqbal's story that I will add in the attachment
the one that best describes the author’s purpose in these frames of Iqbal would be; to show Iqbal's pain and confusion after his debt increased
The frames show us Iqbal's reaction when the old man told Iqbal that his brother's wedding cost them 13,000 rupees and it adds up to his debt. Iqbal was really saddened by this based on his expression

well it says here in the exerpt that they bursted out in to laughter showing they thought that was a joke.
The novel was about a boat trip that the narrator took to thames river along with his friends. He goes on rambling about the trip and takes the time to digress or go off topic to tell anecdotes. What was really memorable about the book was the places visited which were described beautifully.
Apparently Jerome got the inspiration from one of his trip to the thames for his honeymoon in 1888, and his experiences provided him the subject material for the novel.
