John brown was killed because he fought to eliminate slavery all together. Because of this he is labeled as a martyr for being executed for his beliefs. But he was actually executed for murder of slavery owners and for breaking in to the federal arsenal in harpers ferry to start a revolution.
They believed that he handled the Great Depression the best that he could at a time when American society was not open to sweeping reforms.
