Shigellosis, an infection caused by shigella bacteria.  These can be found in stool or fecal matter of infected persons. Symptoms of shigellosis set in a day or two after infection and may last from  days to up to a week.

  • Loose, watery stool or Diarrhea
  • Stomach pains
  • Fever  

Frequent hand washing with soap and clean water are typically enough of a measure to prevent the spread of the disease. Additionally, persons with shigellosis should not handle food and food preparation while ill.
