Explain why postsynaptic potentials are transient (i.e. short lived). In other words, what terminates the action of the neurotra
REY [17]

Answer: The action of a neurotransmitter at the postsynaptic cell is terminated by the following: enzymatic degradation, diffusion or reuptake into the presynaptic cell by specific transporters.

Explanation: After a neurotransmitter has bound to its receptor on the postsynaptic membrane and triggered a biological response, in order to avoid over stimulation of the receptors, the neurotransmitter is either degraded by specific enzymes or taken back to the presynaptic cell into the synaptic vesicles by action of specific transporters. This mechanism is to maintain a balance (homeostasis).

Other nutrients will require a transporter in the membrane, as well as a concentration gradient. This process of ____________ is
Savatey [412]

Answer:

Facilitated diffusion

Explanation:

Facilitated diffusion is the process of diffusion in which ion or some substances are transported across the membrane by a specific carrier membrane protein. The process does not require the input of energy and is driven by a concentration gradient.

The absorption of simple sugars in small intestine occurs through facilitated diffusion. The polar sugar molecules can not cross the nonpolar inner core of the membrane. Hence, the membrane proteins transport the sugars down the concentration gradients without any input of energy.

Pachacha [2.7K]
The bands of circular muscle structures that are located at the cuttlefish skin are most likely responsible for the changes of its outer covering. In addition, the colour cells that are present on the cuttlefish skin were estimated to be about 10 million which is why it was coined "the chameleons of the sea."
