W = the woman's age
m = michael's age

8m = w
15(m -2) = (w-2)

15(m - 2) = (8m - 2)
15m - 30 = 8m - 2
15m - 8m - 30 = 8m - 8m - 2
7m - 30 = -2
7m - 30 + 30 = -2 + 30
7m = 28
m = 4

8m = w
8(4) = w
32 = w

w = 32 years old
m = 4 years old

-- Let's call Michael's age 'S'  (for 'son')

-- Right now his mother's age is 8 times his age ... 8s

-- Two years ago ...

                   son was (S - 2) years old

                   mother was  (8s -2) years old.

                   she was 15 times her son's age.

--  So          (8s - 2)  =  15(s - 2)    <=== this is the equation

                    8s - 2   =  15s - 30

                        - 2   =    7s - 30

                        28   =    7s

                          4   =     s        <=== this is the solution to the equation

-- Michael is  4  now.
   His mother is  (8s) = 32

-- Two years ago, Michael was  2 .
    His mother was (8s - 2) = 30

   30  = 15 x 2      yay !

<h3>1 Answer: v = -130</h3>

=============================================================

Explanation:

Because we're given multiple choices to pick from, we can go through each to do trial and error.

For instance, if v = 52, then

v/13 < -7

52/13 < -7

4 < -7

but that's a false statement since 4 is not smaller than -7. Use a number line to see this. You should have -7 to the left of 4, showing that -7 is the smaller value.

Because 4 < -7 is false, this means v/13 < -7 is false when v = 52. This rules out v = 52. You should find that v = 26 and v = -39 won't work for similar reasons.

Only v = -130 works since...

v/13 < -7

-130/13 < -7

-10 < -7

This is true because -10 is to the left of -7 on the number line.

-------------------------------------------------

Another approach:

We have some unknown number v, and we're dividing by 13 to get the expression v/13. To undo this, we multiply both sides by 13

v/13 < -7

13*(v/13) < 13*(-7) .... multiply both sides by 13

v < -91

So any solution to the original inequality must be smaller than -91. This allows us to rule out v = 52, v = 26 and v = -39.

The value v = -130 is smaller than -91, so it satisfies v < -91. Therefore, v = -130 is a solution to the original inequality.

Dave buys a baseball for $15 plus an 8% tax. Mel buys a football for $20 plus an 8$ tax. How much did each person pay?
-Dominant- [34]
Dave pays $15 and tax is $1.2 so dave spent a total of $16.20.

Mel pays $20 and tax is $1.6 so Mel spent a total of $21.60.

All you need to do is convert the percent to a decimal, so take 8 and divide by 100 and you get 0.08. then you need to  multiply the cost by the tax so 15*0.08=1.2 then you just add tax to original amount 15+1.2=16.2

Point E is the midpoint of AB and point F is the midpoint of CD .
Gwar [14]

Answer:

# AB is bisected by CD

# AE = 1/2 AB

# CE + EF = FD

Step-by-step explanation:

* Lets talk about the mid point

- The mid-point of a segment is divided the segment into two

  equal parts

- The figure has line segment AB

- E is the mid-point of AB

∴ E divides the line segment AB into two equal parts

∴ AE = EB

∴ AE = 1/2 AB ⇒ (1)

- Any line passes through the point E will bisects the line segment AB

∴ AB is bisected by CD ⇒ (2)

∵ F is the mid-point of CD

∴ F divides the line segment CD into two equal parts

∴ CF = FD

∵ Point E lies on CF

∴ CE + EF = CF

∵ CF = FD

∴ CE + EF = FD ⇒ (3)

* There are three statements must be true (1) , (2) , (3)

# AB is bisected by CD

# AE = 1/2 AB

# CE + EF = FD
