We can see that Mr White is satisfied with his life and thinks that he has in his life all that he needs. He can wish for anything yet he doesn't know what to wish for because he's got everything that he deems that he needs.

Read the following excerpt from “The Monkey’s Paw” by W.W. Jacobs.

Mr. White took the paw from his pocket and eyed it dubiously. “I don’t know what to wish for, and that’s a fact,” he said slowly. “It seems to me I’ve got all I want.”

“If you only cleared the house, you’d be quite happy, wouldn’t you?” said Herbert, with his hand on his shoulder. “Well, wish for two hundred pounds, then; that’ll just do it.”

Question: What does the dialogue in this excerpt reveal about Mr. White’s character?

Answer: The dialogue reveals that Mr. White's character is lighthearted.

Explanation: Herbert's reaction to wishing on the paw is more lighthearted and carefree than Mr. White's reaction.

galben [10]

Answer:

D

Explanation:

By naming the destruction of bridges, houses, and roads, the text specifies what types of infrastructures can be destroyed by storms. Only saying that weather is damaging does perhaps conjure up images of flooded streets and toppled trees, but it does not make a direct enough reference to the costly impact of strong storms.

It is much more precise to name expensive losses associated directly with the flooding, landslides and wind gusts generated by the tropical storms.
