Team one had twice as many workers as team two. The number of workers in team one is reduced by 5 and the number of workers in t
inessss [21]

let

x-------> workers in team one initially

y-------> workers in team two initially

we know that

x=2y-----> equation 1

(x-5)=(y-2)+7-----> x-5= y+5----> x=y+10---------> equation 2

equate equation 1 and equation 2

2y=y+10-----> y=10

x=2*10------> x=20

Team 1 now has 20-5 = 15 members
Team 2 now hase 10-2 = 8 members

Ax + by = a - b <br>bx - ay = a+ b <br> by elimination
melisa1 [442]

ax + by = a - b   \:  \:  \: ...(i)\\  \\ bx - ay = a+ b  \:  \:  \: ...(ii) \\  \\

Multiply equation (i) with a and equation (ii) with b ,

{a}^{2} x + aby =  {a}^{2}  - ab \:  \:  \:  ...(iii)\\  \\  {b}^{2} x - aby = ab +  {b}^{2}  \:  \:  \: ...(iv)

Adding (iii) and (iv) , we get ,

( {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2} )x =  {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}  \\  \\ x = 1

Now , from (i) ,

ax+by=a−b \\  \\ a+by=a−b\\  \\ by=−b \\  \\ y=−1
