There were many different prehistoric people living in North America throughout the centuries, and their lifestyles varied significantly. Most of the time, the differences in lifestyles depended on the geographical differences between various regions.

For example, the people from the West Coast were usually hunter-gatherers. They relied on marine resources for subsistence, such as whales, salmon and mollusks. On the other hand, the plains people lived in an environment that was much drier, and with more limited resources. This people relied heavily on the American bison to fulfill most of its needs. As a final example, the North American tribes that lived closer to the Arctic had a different lifestyle. Their main sources of food were large animals such as polar bears, narwhals and seals. They often faced difficult winters with little nourishment, which led them to store a lot of the food they ate, and have a diet that was high on fat.

All of these differences accounted for very diverse lifestyles among the North American prehistoric people.
