Write a 150 word summary of what the book Stella by Starlight is about.

English
1 answer:
Airida [17]3 years ago
6 0
It's 1932 in Bumblebee, North Carolina; everything is segregated, the KKK is active, and black men are strongly discouraged from registering to vote - Jim Crow is in full effect. (The scene where Stella's father and two other men go to register to vote would be a swift and effective replacement for the relevant section in many U.S. History textbooks.) Stella deals with the usual struggles of a girl her age, such as schoolwork and chores, but she also deals with entrenched racism that threatens her family and friends. Her community comes together to offer support, such as when the Spencer family's house is torched by the KKK (Mr. Spencer was one of the men who registered to vote, along with Stella's father), or when Stella's friend Tony is beaten up by two white men in the town square. Throughout, Stella works out her thoughts and feelings in writing, both for school assignments and in her journal, and later, in her very own newspaper, Stella's Star-Sentinel. Near the end of the book, she saves the life of Paulette, daughter of Dr. Packard, who refused to treat Stella's mother for a snakebite. The girls come to understand each other a little better, and Paulette isn't the only good white person in the novel - but the bad ones are truly awful.

Hope this helps :))

Read the sentence. Coaches consider him the best athlete in his division. How does the word athlete function in the sentence?
Anastasy [175]

Answer:

Objective Complement.

Explanation:

Objective Complement can be defined as a word or a  phrase that is used to renames the direct object or to tell of the state of the direct object. This word can be a noun, pronoun, or an adjective.

For example, Naina is a teacher. (In this sentence, teacher is an objective complement for the direct object 'Naina.')

<u>In the given case, the word 'athlete' has been used to rename the direct object 'him.' The word 'athlete' has renamed 'him' as an 'athlete.'</u>

Thus the correct answer is last option 'objective complement.'

“government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth."
galben [10]

Answer:

The best answer, by elimination, is the government we founded years ago will not fall.

Explanation:

The quote is from Lincoln's Gettysburg Address but none of the options is a perfect summary. Going through them, the quote said nothing about great riches, turned against its people or ancient empires. The best answer, by elimination, is the government we founded years ago will not fall.

In what way do the swans in “The Wild Swans at Coole” by William Butler Yeats represent eternity?
Brut [27]
Their hearts have not grown old;
Passion or conquest, wander where they will,
Attend upon them still. I would say that this section of the poem indicate that the swans represent eternity ie saying that their hearts have not grown old and that they still have passion and a will for conquest indicates at least for now eternal qualities that they possess,
