A systematic process to find a solution to a question or issue is called <u>"problem solving".</u>

Problems can be hard to solve when we just know the issue and none of the steps to fix it.  

Problem solving refers to the way toward working through details of a problem to achieve an answer. Problem solving may incorporate numerical or efficient activities and can be a gauge of a person's basic reasoning skills.
