Many slaves were brought to Brazil due to the sugar economy, which is the primary source of income in Brazil. They also used slaves when the Portuguese colonizers had discovered gold and diamond deposits in Brazil. Because of this, Portugal had sent slaves to work on the fields and mines under the Portuguese colony.
