Even if not all those soldiers agreed with Lincoln´s ideas, most of them were probably no aligned with the ideas of the Chicago Times, an anti-Lincoln and pro-Democratic newspaper.

Furthermore, the criticism published at that time, in many cases, got detracted years later, in light of the profound effect that Lincoln´s ideas had in the development of the Nation.
