The steam engine was the most important invention of the industrial. The steam engine was important because it helped to power the industrial revolution. Before the steam engine, all the factories were powered by horse, water, and wind and had to be located near a river to utilize the water power.

All of these sources were unreliable but with the invention of steam engines, the factories could be located far from the rivers. During the 1800s the design of these engines was improved and they became efficient and smaller. They were utilized in factories and transportation including trains and steamboats.
