A possible legal consequence for people who violate the open housing law is that the person who has felt discriminated againts can file a complaint with the united states department of housing and urban development. If it is determined that discrmination occured, the offender may be ordered to compensate the plaintiff for damages, have available housing, pay a civil penalty or pay reasonable attorneys s fees.
