A dependent clause is a clause (a group of words containing a subject and a verb or verb phrase) that does <em>not </em>express a complete thought and therefore cannot stand alone in a sentence. In this sentence "After the movie was over" is a dependent clause because it contains a subject (movie) and a verb (was) but does not express a complete thought.
