Enlightenment ideas created a society in which education is valued highly and that believes that everyone should get an education. An example of a modern belief that spans from enlightenment ideas is that education should be free and available to anyone, as seen in numerous countries of the European Union. Read the following passage, “The Ordeal of Herbert Hoover.” Then answer the question.
Stolb23 [73]

Answer:

D. It was a mistake to shy away from being an emotional leader.

Explanation:

 • President Hoover became the president at a time of National Emergency. His policies and approaches to tackling the Great Depression was seen as a failure by many Americans and he has been dubbed as “Hoovervilles”, “Hoover hogs”, “Hoover flags”, etc because he was blamed for the failure of the administration.
 • The above statement best reflects the argument that President Hoover's shying away from the emotional aspects of modern, mass leadership was a mistake.
 • It is believed that President Hoover's failure to acknowledge his weakness and emotional aspects greatly affected his reputation as a politician.
