Popular sovereignty is rule by the people, such as the U.S. government, and feudalism is rule by a king.

Popular sovereignty

Popular sovereignty is the principle that is created by the government or authority of state and it is sustained by the consent of the people. The principle is sustained by the consent of the people through their elected representatives.

Further Explanation

The elected representatives in this case are the source of all political power. Popular sovereignty is linked with social contract philosophers including john locke (1588–1679), jean-Jacques (1712–1778) and Thomas hobbes (1588–1679).

The social contract is the principle that is based on the fact that government should be for the benefit of its citizens. The declaration of independence says, the government should be dissolved if it’s not for the benefit of the people.

In 1651, during the civil war, one of the social contract philosophers, Thomas hobbes, wrote the leviathan.

He came up with the first basis of popular sovereignty when he wrote the leviathan

Feudalism

Feudalism is defined as a system of land ownership and duties. It was practiced in the middle ages. In feudalism, all the land in the kingdom belongs to the king. The three social classes of a feudal society are king, a noble class, which could be priests and princes and peasant class.

In feudal system, the king can use his discretion to share land with anyone, particular to his nobles who fought for him.
