Known as the Nika riots, it was an answer against the tax increase, and because of Justinian I religious ideas. The tax amount was intolerable, and the price of food was rose. The population was afraid of Justinian religious ideas, who wanted to please Western ideas (the cult images is an example). Throughout 3 days, population set on fire many buildings, including Hagia Sophia. The revolt was contained by the army that invaded the Hippodrome and killed almost 30.000 people.
