Instructions:Select the correct answer.
MrMuchimi
In my opinion, the correct answer is 3. Ivan Ilyich recognizes and hates the false propriety in Praskovya Fedorovna, a false nature that he himself once had. Ivan has led a false life, and only now, on the verge of death, does he realize it. The vicinity of death changes his perspective. He sees the world with different eyes, and that is why he loathes his wife - because he recognizes in her all the features that he himself had had. He knows that she kisses him only because it is a proper behavior, something a wife should do to her ill husband.

What question does the adverb clause answer? After I went to bed last night, the telephone rang twice.
Paul [167]
Adverb clauses are group of words used in shifting or adding meaning of a verb, clause, adjective, or another adverb. These clauses can be used if: firstly, a sentence contains a subject and a predicate. Secondly, when a subordinate conjunction is used and thirdly, if it answer the ‘adverbial questions’ – when, why, when and how. It is also further categorized to time, place, manner, degree, condition, concession and reason.
In the sentence: After I went to bed last night, the telephone rang twice.
The adverb clause of time is ‘after I went to bed last night’, so the question must be in ‘when’ form. That is: When did the telephone ring twice?

What is one possible disadvantage of hearing the characters’ voices as opposed to silently reading the scene?
ziro4ka [17]

The answers are: It does not allow listeners to interpret each character through his or her tone; and it does not allow listeners to review or reread what each character has said.

When hearing the characters voices out loud, and in the hypothetical case that it is a live audition and not a recording, one, as part of the audience, does not have, evidently, the possibility of reviewing or rereading what each character says. This may seem vane, but in reality, it can be very important when reading since sometimes the sense of what´s being read is so profound that, in order to capture in full, one needs to review a certain passage.

Also, hearing the characters has the disadvantage of making their voices concrete and specific according to whoever is speaking. This leaves out the possibility of filling the character´s voice with one´s own imagination, wit, and fantasy, which usually are very important characteristics of a fictional character (literature, in the end, is always a very subjective activity on the side of the reader).
