In the medieval times, life for a merchant was very risky and dangerous. Although being a merchant had it's ups, a lot were killed just traveling from town to town. The roads were rough since no town wanted to spend money to fix them and the risk of being beaten up or having goods stolen by bandits was rougher! Many merchants worried about bandits killing them and stealing their goods! Hope that helps! :)
