Why do some words have two past tense forms (e.g. “dreamed” vs. “dreamt”)?
Elanso [62]
This is essentially language change at work. Do you know how Shakespeare sometimes sounds "weird" to us? that's because English has changed since then.

Language change is not abrupt, but gradual, and while the change takes place sometimes two forms are used: so while it is likely that in years to come only dreamed will be correct, and in the past only "dreamt", currently the change is not complete and both are correct.

Write sentences. Put the words in parentheses in the correct
Nady [450]

Answer: Numbers 2,3,4,5, and 6 in order

Explanation:

2: He rarely goes to football games

3: We eat a lot on every Thanksgiving Day

4: I visit my grandparents every holiday

5: That store is always crowded

6: We wear traditional clothes once in a while

Remember to always capitalize the first letters of any sentence that you write/type.

If you were to change the order of these words in any of the sentences for the sake of discussion, it wouldn't make sense right? Usually if you were to answer this, maybe try to rearrange the words until it sounds correct. If your still stuck, maybe ask a parent/guardian/sibling/teacher/etc.

Alex17521 [72]

Answer:

A. A trip to the ocean can be a relaxing escape from the everyday pressures of life.

B. You should always be careful to avoid overexposure to the sun at the beach.

Explanation:

A. Topic Sentence:

A topic sentence gives the idea of what the paragraph is about. This paragraph tells about  how the senses are relaxed near or around the beach or sea or water area. So the first sentence summarizes this idea that a trip to the ocean can be a relaxing escape from the everyday pressures of life.

B. Not topic sentence.

Any sentence which is not  related to the topic or does not have any element of the topic is a not topic sentence. In this paragraph the not topic sentence is You should always be careful to avoid overexposure to the sun at the beach. This sentence has no element of relaxation near or around the ocean . Instead it is an instruction that we should be careful while sunbathing.
