Lets break this down. One minute is 60 seconds, so to find out what 3/4ths of a minute is we would divide 60 by 4 and that would give us 15; but thats only 1/4th of a minute. So to get 3/4ths we take the 15 and multiply that by 3 and we get 45. So if Tim can write 30 words in 45 seconds then he is writing about 0.6 words a second. We repeat that process for Justins words per second and we get 0.6 once again. we then add 0.6 and 0.6 together to get they're combined words per second and we come up with 1.3. Stay with me were almost done! Now we know that together Justin and Tim write 1.3 words a second so if we multiply 1.3 by 60 we now know that combined they write 78 words a minute now we multiply that by 5 and we see that altogether in 5 minutes they write about 390 words.

Heath has 10 pennies in his piggy bank initially. He doubles the number of pennies in his piggy bank each day for five days. wri
vaieri [72.5K]

Answer:

y = 10 * 2^x

OR

y(5) = 10 * 2^5

Day 0 = 10 pennies: Point(0, 10)

Day 1 = 20 pennies: Point(1, 20)

Day 2 = 40 pennies: Point(2, 40)

Day 3 = 80 pennies: Point(3, 80)

Day 4 = 160 pennies: Point(4, 160)

Day 5 = 320 pennies: Point(5, 320)

Step-by-step explanation:

Heath has 10 pennies, so pennies = 10.

He doubles the number of pennies each day, so total pennies = 10 * 2 to the power of # of days.

Using the equation y = 10 * 2^x will give you the answer for any number of days. Since the problem asks for 5 days, you plug in 5 for x. On the graph, this would be a single point (5, 320).

So, plot the 6 points you have and connect a curved line through it. That should be your answer.

Nine more than the quotient of a number and 4 is 12
Fudgin [204]
To solve this, let's first convert the equation to standard form:

9 + (x/4) = 12

Now, let's solve for x:

9 + (x/4) = 12
9 + (x/4) - 9 = 12 - 9
x/4 = 3
x/4 * 4 = 3 * 4
x = 12
