It was different in the sense that the two main protagonists didn’t fight each other directly, but fought proxy wars in other nations. The Soviets aiding and arming one side, the US arming another side. It was a bit like a global chess game in a sense. The US and the Soviets trying to out think each other while building their own empires and depleting the resources of the other. Unfortunately other people and other nations were used as pawns, and the effects are still being felt today.

There would be no way for anyone to wash their hands. The school would be running out of plastic bags to put all of the students teeth in at the rate that they would be falling out.
