A study was interested in determining if walking 2 miles a day lowered someone's blood pressure.Twenty people's blood pressure w

as measured. Then, ten of these individuals were randomly selected from the initial 20 people. These ten were told to walk 2 miles a day for 6 weeks and to eat as they normally did. The other ten were told to eat as they normally would. After six weeks, their blood pressure levels were measured again. What type of study is this? Answer:

This is an "Experiment" type of study

Step-by-step explanation:

Researchers use various methods or techniques to conduct research and draw conclusions from it. Some of these methods are given below

1. Experiment

2. Observational study

3. Anecdotal evidence

1. Experiment: In this type of study, researchers have control over their setup and they can give directions or apply any treatment on their subjects.

2. Observational study: In this type of study, researchers cannot give directions or apply any treatment on their subjects but rather they can only observe what is going on.

3. Anecdotal evidence: Also refers to experience and can be defined as personal experience based on something.

The study that we are given is clearly an example of "experiment" since half of the participants were to told walk 2 miles a day for 6 weeks. The researchers have control over their subjects in this case and they gave directions to their subjects to do this and that.

This could have been an observational study if researchers had selected 10 people who walked 2 miles a day for 6 weeks and 10 people who did not walk 2 miles a day for 6 weeks and simply measured their blood pressure and come to a conclusion. This way, it would have been a case of observational study.

Answer:

Experiment

Step-by-step explanation:

Experimental study design is a type of study design in which the investigator or researcher is in complete control of the research environment. For example, a researcher may want to assess the effects of certain treatments on some experimental units. The researcher or investigator decides the type of treatment, the type of experimental unit to use, the time, the allocation and assessment procedures of the treatment and effects respectively. In Experimental study design, the investigator or researcher is in complete control of the exposure and the result should therefore provide a stronger evidence of an association or lack of association between an exposure and a health problem than would an observational study where the investigator or researcher is usually a passive observer as he only observes and analyses facts and events as they occur  naturally or anecdotal evidence which is just someones personal experience or testimony without scientific proof that can be based on some measurement or experimentation.

A) Answer: A. 22.5 cm, 30 cm, and 37.5 cm

Setting the unity measurement as x, the three sides will be 3·x, 4·x, and 5·x. The sum of the three sides will be (3 + 4 + 5)·x = 12·x; this corresponds to the perimeter, therefore:

12·x = 90 cm

We can solve for x:

x = 90 / 12 = 7.5 cm

Hence, the sides will be:

7.5 · 3 = 22.5 cm

7.5 · 4 = 30 cm

7.5 · 5 = 37.5 cm

This situation is represented in option A (which is also the only option whose sides add up to 90).

B) Answer: C. never true

We have:

6 + 8x - 9 = 11x + 14 - 3x

Bring all the terms with x on the left, by subtracting from both sides 11x and -3x, and all the numbers on the right by subtrcting from both sides 6 and -9:

6 + 8x - 9 - 11x - (-3x) - 6 - (-9) = 11x + 14 - 3x - 11x - (-3x) - 6 - (-9)

Cancel out the opposite terms from each side:

8x - 11x + 3x = 14 - 6 + 9

Combine likely terms:

0x = 17

Now you should ask yourself: what number multiplied by zero gives 17 as a result? The answer is none because a number multiplied by zero always equals zero.

Hence, the statement is never true.

C) Answer: r \leq \frac{1}{5}

We have:

5r + 4 ≤ 5

Subtract 4 from both sides:

5r + 4 - 4 ≤ 5 - 4

Combine likely terms:

5r ≤ 1

Divide both sides by 5:

\frac{5r}{5} \leq \frac{1}{5}

r \leq \frac{1}{5}

To graph the set of solutions, you need to set:

y₁ = 5x + 4 and

y₂ = +5

Plot these two lines:

y₂ is a horizontal line at a height of 5;

y₁ is a line passing through (0, 4) and (1, 9)

The set of solutions will be the part of the graph in which y₁ lies underneath y₂ (see picture attached), that happens for x \leq \frac{1}{5}.

bija089 [108]

Answer:

The probability that the assembly line will be shut down is 0.00617.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that a soda bottling company’s manufacturing process is calibrated so that 99% of bottles are filled to within specifications, while 1% is not within specification.

Every hour, 12 random bottles are taken from the assembly line and tested. If 2 or more bottles in the sample are not within specification, the assembly line is shut down for recalibration.

Let X = <u><em>Number of bottles in the sample that are not within specification</em></u>.

The above situation can be represented through binomial distribution;

P(X=r)=\binom{n}{r} \times p^{r}\times (1-p)^{n-r};x=0,1,2,3,.....

where, n = number of trials (samples) taken = 12 bottles

             x = number of success  = 2 or more bottles

            p = probabilitiy of success which in our question is probability that

                 bottles are not within specification, i.e. p = 0.01

So, X ~ Binom (n = 12, p = 0.01)

Now, the probability that the assembly line will be shut down is given by = P(X \geq 2)

  P(X \geq 2) = 1 - P(X = 0) - P(X = 1)

                 = 1-\binom{12}{0} \times 0.01^{0}\times (1-0.01)^{12-0}-\binom{12}{1} \times 0.01^{1}\times (1-0.01)^{12-1}

                 = 1-(1 \times 1\times 0.99^{12})-(12 \times 0.01^{1}\times 0.99^{11})

                 = <u>0.00617</u>
