The 2016 Olympics organizers tried to minimize the impact of the event on the environment.  Some examples of their sustainable practices are:  plant 24 million seedlings to reduce or offset the carbon emissions caused by the Games.  The Olympic medals usually made out of bronze and silver incorporated recycled material.  They also intended to fix or upgrade the sewer system to reduce the level of pollution in the Guanabara Bay.
