The Hellenistic Age came to an end around the time when the Roman Empire began to emerge, but historians differ on the more precise timeframe since there were many different factors involved.
Technological innovations during this time in the United States primarily had negative impacts on factory workers since they introduced very dangerous working conditions, and positive impacts on middle-class urban residents since their income increased (in general).
Common: Language/Culture barrier resulting in separatist movements from a larger dominant culture (i.e. french speaking quebecois being dominated by larger canada, Uighur muslims vs. Han chinese, itchkeria vs ingushetia) Different in geographic locales, scope of the difference, and degree of divergence of culture/language.
The motivations for colonial expansion were trade and the spread of the Christian faith through indigenous conversions. The Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de Leon was an early invader of the Americas, traveling to the New World on Columbus' second voyage. He became the first governor of Puerto Rico in 1509.
