Mathematics

Since BD is an angle bisector, it cut the angle into two equal angles.

∠ABD = ∠CBD       definition of angle bisector

3x - 1 = 34 - 2x      substitution

  5x - 1 = 34            added 2x to both sides

   5x    = 35            added 1 to both sides

      x    = 7              divided both sides by 5

Answer: 7

Note: Since it is given that m∠ABC = 40°, we could have calculated the ∠ABD = 20 and created the equation: 20 = 3x - 1.  Once solved, we will get x = 7

x = 7

∠ABD = ∠CBD = 20 ( BD bisects ∠ABC )

solve either 3x - 1 = 20 or 34 - 2x = 20

3x - 1 = 20 ( add 1 to both sides and divide by 3 )

3x = 21 ⇒ x = 7

OR

34 - 2x = 20 ( subtract 34 from both sides and divide by - 2 )

- 2x = - 14 ⇒ x = 7

Find the percent increase in volume when 1 foot is added to each dimension of the prism. Round your answer to the nearest tenth
Olin [163]

Answer:

The percentage increase in volume of the prism is impossible to find. This is because the current dimension or the diagram from which the dimension of the prism could be determined is not given.

However I will explain the methods to follow in finding this percentage increase, assuming that the current dimension of the prism is given.

Step-by-step explanation:

Assuming the volume the of prism is x ft³. After adding 1 ft to each dimension, the volume becomes y ft³.

The percentage increase = (y/x) × 100

= z%

That is,

Percentage increase = [(New volume) ÷ (Old volume)] × 100

The resulting value, z% is the percentage increase.

Step by step solve for x the following problem... 34 - 5x + 2 (x - 2) = 15
xz_007 [3.2K]

34-5x+2(x-2)=15

34-5x+2(x)(2) (-2)=15

34-5x+2x-4=15

30-3x=15

30-3x-30=15-30

-3x=-15

-3x/-3=-15/-3

x=5

Nathan has some pencils. 3/4 of his pencils are yellow pencils. 2/3 of those lead pencils do not have erasers. What fraction of
Salsk061 [2.6K]

Answer:

The fraction of Nathan's pencils that are yellow without erasers is 1/2.

Step-by-step explanation:

The problem gave us two informations, the first one is the fraction of the total amount of pencils that Nathan has that are yellow, the second one is the fraction of those yellow pencils that don't have erasers. So in order to find the fraction of the total pencils that are yellow pencils without erasers we need to multiply the two fractions that were given to us. So we have:

yellow pencils without erasers = (3/4)*(2/3) = 6/12 = 1/2
