N an experiment, chemists heated a solid, red substance in a test tube. Vapors from the heated red substance condensed as a meta

llic liquid on the side of the tube. The red substance eventually disappeared, leaving only the metallic liquid and producing a gas that escaped from the tube. Which statement best describes what happened to the red substance in this experiment?
A. The experiment demonstrates the formation of plasma from the red substance.

B. The experiment demonstrates a physical property of the red substance.

C. The experiment shows that the red substance experienced a chemical change.

D. The experiment shows that the red substance can be a solid, liquid, or gas.

E. The experiment shows that the red substance is an element.

Answer is: C. The experiment shows that the red substance experienced a chemical change.

This is chemical change (chemical reaction), because two new substances are formed (metalig liquid and gas), the atoms are rearranged and the reaction is followed by an energy change.

This is example of chemical decomposition.

Chemical decomposition (analysis) is the separation of a single chemical compound into its two or more elemental parts or to simpler compounds.

Chemical decomposition is opposite of chemical synthesis.

A light strikes the boundary of a medium at a 45 degree angle. Instead of entering the second medium, the light reflects back in
Dahasolnce [82]

Answer:

D It must be equal to 1.00

Explanation:

The refraction in the second medium must be equal to 1. The refraction index is given as the ration of the angle of incidence to the angle of refraction. This is given as a fraction. In other words:

\frac{sin\theta _{i} }{sin\theta _{r} } = n

where Θ₁ and Θ₂ are angles of incidence an refraction, and n is the refractive index.

At a critical angle, the refraction is equal to the reflection inside the medium. This results in a phenomenon called total internal reflection where light is reflected internally in the medium.

Why can't the reaction, ZnCl2 + H2 → Zn + 2HCI, occur naturally?
Llana [10]

Answer:

It is fairly obvious that zinc metal reacts with aqueous hydrochloric acid! The bubbles are hydrogen gas. ... In fact, electrons are being transferred from the zinc atoms to the hydrogen atoms (which ultimately make a molecule of diatomic hydrogen), changing the charges on both elements.
