East Asia is a region that is heavily industrialized in general. This means that the nations of this region need a lot of energy for their economies to work. Depending from country to country, they tend to use different or same methods when it comes to satisfying their power needs. The countries like Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, are pretty poor in natural resources, meaning that the majority of their energy is imported from other nations, especially from the ones nearby, such as Russia and Indonesia. North Korea has a political system that makes it closed to the world and trade, thus it is using its own natural resources to the maximum, mostly the hydro-power and coal. China is one of the biggest energy consumers in the world, and while it has lot of natural resources on its own, it also imports a lot, especially from Russia. Mongolia on the other hand is a country that has relatively small power needs, and it manages to provide the majority of them with its own enormous natural resources, mostly with the coal.
