The permafrost are defined as the thick subsurface soil inter-mixed with rocks, that remains frozen for more than a year. They are commonly found in the high latitude areas, specially in and around the polar regions.
The tundra biome is mainly characterized by the presence of permafrost layers. This biome occupies the polar region, where there is less amount of trees and the temperature remains relatively very cold through out the year, favoring the formation of permafrost layers in it.
Each of these three groups have multicellular species and the green and red algae have many single-celled species. The land plants are not considered protists.
