3 3/4 lb of candy costs $ 20.25

we have been given a mixed fraction with both whole number and fraction

so lets convert it an improper fraction

3 3/4

3 wholes are equivalent to 3*\frac{4}{4} = \frac{12}{4}

then 3 3/4 is - \frac{12}{4} + \frac{3}{4} = \frac{15}{4}

so 15/4 lbs -- $ 20.25

then 1 lb is -- \frac{20.25}{15/4} = \frac{20.25*4}{15} = \frac{81}{15} = 5.4

therefore 1 lb is equal to $ 5.40

George bought a shirt and a pair of pants at a clothing store. The pants cost $5.23 more than the shirt, and he used a $10 off c
tekilochka [14]

The pants cost $36.06 ⇒ answer D

Step-by-step explanation:

George bought a shirt and a pair of pants at a clothing store

1. The pants cost $5.23 more than the shirt

2. He used a $10 off coupon to purchase the shirt

3. The equation s - $10 = $20.83 is used to determine the cost of the

    shirt before the coupon

We need to find the cost of the pants

∵ s represents the cost of the shirt before the coupon

∵ s - 10 = 20.83

- Add 10 to both sides

∴ s = $30.83

The cost of the shirt before the coupon is $30.83

∵ The cost of the pants is $5.23 more than the cost of the shirt

∴ The cost of the pants = the cost of the shirt + $5.23

∵ The cost of the shirt is $30.83

∴ The cost of the pants = 30.83 + 5.23

∴ The cost of the pants = $36.06

The pants cost $36.06
