Hydroelectric energy requires damming a watercourse(stream or river) in order to store up water used to generate energy. Sometimes, during high peak of rainfall, these dams might overflow leading to flooding in the area.
This is not the case for geothermal energy as the energy is derived from heated water sourced from underneath the surface of the earth. There are no issues of flood with geothermal energy.
