Answer:

0.33 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

From the diagram, triangle ACE is similar to triangle BCD.

Therefore,

\frac{b}{30+b} = \frac{6}{a}

a=\frac{6(30+b)}{b}

Let the Length of the Ladder, L

Using Pythagoras theorem

L^{2}=(30+b)^{2}+(\frac{6(30+b)}{b})^{2}

L^{2}=\frac{(30+b)^{2}(36+b^{2})}{b^{2}}

L=\sqrt{\frac{(30+b)^{2}(36+b^{2})}{b^{2}} }

L=\frac{30+b}{b}\sqrt{b^2+36}

To find the least value, we have to equate the derivative of L to 0.

L^{1}=\frac{b^{3}-1080}{b^{2}\sqrt{b^2+36}}

Therefore:

b³-1080=0

b³=1080

b=10.26

The minimum length of the ladder is:

L=\frac{30+10.26}{10.26}\sqrt{10.26^2+36}

=0.33 ft

Answer:

12 2/12

or 12 1/6 ( simplified fraction)

Step-by-step explanation:

first add the whole numbers together :7+5-4+3=12-1=11 ( same denominator 12)

1/12 +7/12 -5/12 +11/12 = 14/12  ( improper fraction)

= 1 2/12 mixed fraction

11 + 1 2/12=12 2/12 or 12 1/6 ( simplified fraction)

In a recent year, an author wrote 169 checks. Use the Poisson distribution to find the probability that, on a randomly selecte
grigory [225]
We should first calculate the average number of checks he wrote per day.  To do that, divide 169 by 365 (the number of days in a year) and you get (rounded) 0.463.  This will be λ in our Poisson distribution.  Our formula is
P(X=k)= \frac{ \lambda ^{k}-e^{-\lambda} }{k!}.  We want to evaluate this formula for X≥1, so first we must evaluate our case at k=0.
P(X=0)= \frac{0.463 ^{0}-e ^{-0.463} }{0!} \\ = \frac{1-e ^{-0.463} }{1} =0.3706
To find P(X≥1), we find 1-P(X<1).  Since the author cannot write a negative number of checks, this means we are finding 1-P(X=0).  Therefore we have 1-0.3706=0.6294.
There is a 63% chance that the author will write a check on any given day in the year.<em />
