Consider a population of rock pigeons. The mean spot size on the tail of these pigeons is 0.55. You select the top 5% of pigeons

based on spot size to breed. The mean spot size in these pigeons that you are breeding is 0.75. The heritability of spot size is rock pigeons is known to be 0.25. What is the response to selection (please give your answer to two decimal places)

Answer:

0.05

Explanation:

Given that:

The total population mean  of the  rock pigeons = 0.55

After selection of top 5%, the mean spot size(selected population mean size) = 0.75

Then; true selection = 0.75 - 0.55

true selection (S) = 0.20

The heritability of spot size is rock pigeons is known to be 0.25.

The response to the selection can be calculated as follows:

R =

Response to selection R = heritability spot size × true selection

= 0.25 × 0.20

= 0.05

Hence, the response to selection is 0.05 to two decimal places

Answer:

The response to selection is 0.05

Explanation:

We are provided with the data on a population of rock pigeons below;

The Mean of selected parents = 0.75

The Mean of offspring  = 0.55

Selection differential (S),

= Mean of selected parents - Mean of offspring

= 0.75 - 0.55

S = 0.2

The heritability, h = 0.25

The Response to selection,

R = h2S

R = heritability × Selection differential

R = 0.25 * 0.2 = 0.05

The Response to selection = 0.05

To supply the developing fetus with the calcium required for teeth and bones, pregnant women should:
Jet001 [13]

Continue to consume the calcium recommended for non-pregnant women because calcium absorption increases during pregnancy which will provide for the fetus. The good news is that most women do not experience bone problems during pregnancy and breastfeeding.  For the good health of both the mother and her baby she should take care of one’s bone health is especially need during pregnancy and breastfeeding,

What is the formula for this compound?
Delicious77 [7]

Answer:

Symbols: Each capitol letter means that there is a new element

Li2

Cl3

is made of lithium and chlorine

Na2

SO4 is made of sodium, sulfur and oxygen

Chemical Formulas are used to describe a chemical compound, when two or more atoms

combine to form a new substance.

A combination of chemical symbols shows the elements that make up a chemical compound.

The chemical formula for water is H2O

H stands for HYDROGEN.

O stands for OXYGEN.

Subscripts are numbers that come after a symbol and below. Subscripts tell you the number of

atoms of that element. If an element does not have a subscript, then it is understood that the

subscript is 1.

Li2Cl3 has two lithium atoms and three chlorine atoms

Na2SO4 has two atoms of sodium, one atom of sulfur, and four atoms of oxygen

A subscript outside a parenthesis affects all the elements inside the parenthesis. Multiply the

subscript on the outside by the subscript of the atoms on the inside.

Al (SO4)3 has 1 atom of aluminum, 3 atoms of sulfur, and 12 atoms of oxygen.

Coefficients are full size numbers in front of chemical formula. The coefficient multiplies everything

in the formula. It also represents the number of molecules of that compound.

2Na2

SO4 has 4 sodium atoms, 2 sulphur atoms, and 8 oxygen atoms.

2Al (SO4)

3 has 2 aluminum atoms, 6 sulfur atoms, and 24 oxygen atoms

When you count atoms, remember to multiply the coefficient number and the subscript number to find

the number of atoms of that element.

explain how having a haploid number of chromosomes contributes to the function of gametes in a life cycle
kotegsom [21]
Having the haploid number of chromosomes allows the zygote to have the correct number. If gametes weren't haploid, every generation of organisms would have twice as many chromosomes as their parents. I hope my answer has come to your help. God bless and have a nice day ahead!
