Answer: The legislative branch is the branch of government which is responsible for making, or having the power to make, a law or laws.

The members of a legislature are called legislators.

The major functions of the legislative branch are;

1) representation,

2) deliberation,

3) legislation,

4) authorizing expenditure,

5) making governments, and

6) oversight

Now in the expansion of civil rights, the legislative branch has served as representatives by representing the interests of the society as a whole.

The legislative branch consists the Senate and the House of Representatives. Its role is to pass laws that are beneficial to the State. The Civil Rights Act had several versions and revisions. The legislative branch used the Fourteenth Amendment to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1875. This government branch also reconstructed the Civil Rights Act in the late 1960s.
