What Martin Luther thought and wanted was that people realize that faith alone was enough for salvation to come. He disliked the fact that the church was teaching that both faith and good works would bring salvation and that only strong faith alone wasn't enough.

Also, they weakened the federal government by not allowing them to control taxes. The state government didn't have anyone to check on them, so they had high taxes. This caused a rebellion.
