Considered a period of great progress and stability -China’s Golden age-, The Tang Dynasty ruled China between 618 and 907 A.D. Confucianism was part of the teachings in the late Tang dynasty, and the Northern and Southern Song periods. The lessons referred of the importance of self-cultivation in order to have a correct society in harmonic conditions.

Confucian teachings revived in the Song period. They were important to the civil service, the family system, and politics.

Daoism was of great influence on China’s reunification under the Tang dynasty. Its founder, Li Yuan, claimed to be descended from Laozi. After the conclusion of the Song government in 1126, appeared a number of new Daoist sects in the occupied North.

In Tang China, women had more rights, especially during Wu Zetian's reign. In Song China, they valued Confucianism and women were more suppressed.
