Despite the aggressive defense of the cardiovascular system by the immune system, some microbes can invade and establish an infe

ction in the blood. From the following list of microbes and their virulence factors, identify the mismatch.
A. Bacillus anthracis produces antioxidants to combat lysosomes.
B. Coxiella burnetii produces an endospore-like structure.
C. Trypanosoma cruzi cloaks itself in host proteins to avoid immune recognition.
D. Borrelia burgdorferi changes its surface antigens to avoid immune recognition.

Answer:

The mismatch is on the statement that says "Bacillus anthracis produces antioxidants to combat lysosomes."

Explanation:

A. Bacillus anthracis produces antioxidants to combat lysosomes.

This is incorrect. Bacillus anthracis is a bacterium that forms aerobic spores, whose structures contain the genetic material of the bacteria and that resist long periods without water or nutrients, in conditions of extreme heat or cold. Bacillus anthracis is found in some forms, one of this, is the cutaneous anthrax. Cutaneous anthrax is a skin infection caused by direct contact with the bacterium.

B. Coxiella burnetii produces an endospore-like structure.

Coxiella burnetti is a bacterial zoonosis and produces structures similar to endospores, which are cells or forms of resistance that develop certain bacilli against heat, desiccation, radiation and chemical influences.

C. Trypanosoma cruzi cloaks itself in host proteins to avoid immune recognition.

Trypanosoma cruzi is characterized by being a parasite with great antigenic variability. In the host infected with Trypanosoma cruzi, the membrane protein called cruzipain, is a response used in favor of the parasite. The humoral response to the cruzipain antigen, the largest antigen of Trypanosoma cruzi, is implicated in the pathogenesis of experimental Chagas disease.

D. Borrelia burgdorferi changes its surface antigens to avoid immune recognition

Borrelia burgdorferi is a bacterium that produces Lyme disease, once infected, the bacterium recombines by altering the antigens of its membrane, preventing immune recognition.

Islands like St. George Island and Dog Island are common along all coastlines in Florida (Merritt Island is another example). Id
Elina [12.6K]

Answer:

These islands are barrier islands.

Explanation:

Barrier islands are islands in front of the mainland that separate part of the sea from the open sea. They lie parallel to the coast and have an elongated, narrow shape. On the sea side, dunes often shape the surface, on the land side they are flat. They were created by deposits of waves, currents and wind. Their formation requires a shallow coastal fore, a sufficiently large sediment store and a weak to moderate tidal range.

In the context of biological anthropology, the results of a disadvantaged social environment can include one
lorasvet [3.4K]

Answer:

One with poor-quality nutrition.

Explanation:

Anthropology may be defined as the field of biology that mainly includes the study of human behavior, societies and humans. Two different types of anthropology are cultural and social anthropology.

The social environment and its consequences is included and studied in the social anthropology. The disadvantage of social environment in anthropology shows the population with the lack of proper nutrition and people suffers from the malnutrition.

Thus, the answer is one with poor-quality nutrition.

In this assignment, you will use simulations to analyze how climate, resources, and habitat size affect
max2010maxim [7]

Answer:

Larger habitats support populations with higher carrying capacities. Higher quality habitats support populations with higher carrying capacities. There is no difference in population growth rate between large and small habitats. Some major threats to biodiversity are: Habitat destruction/Deforestation, Introduced and invasive species, Genetic pollution, Over exploitation, Hybridization, Climate change, Diseases, Human overpopulation. If abiotic or biotic factors change, the carrying capacity changes as well. Natural disasters can destroy resources in an ecosystem. If resources are destroyed, the ecosystem will not be able to support a large population. This causes the carrying capacity to decrease.

Carrying capacity could be reduced if each individual within the species consumed less from the environment. Think about humans: if every human needs a four car garage and a large house, the planet can sustain fewer humans than if each human lived in a studio apartment and traveled using a bicycle. It would take 1.75 Earths to sustain our current population. If current trends continue, we will reach 3 Earths by the year 2050. It is beyond dispute that the modern industrial world has been able to temporarily expand Earth's carrying capacity for our species. As Nordhaus points out, population has grown dramatically (from less than a billion in 1800 to 7.6 billion today), and so has per capita consumption. Historically, habitat and land use change have had the biggest impact on biodiversity in all ecosystems, but climate change and pollution are projected to increasingly affect all aspects of biodiversity. Sustainable agriculture practices support integrating biodiversity in various ways including in terms of diversity of crops, traditional agriculture techniques to control pests and increase productivity as well as ensuring that farmed land is made up of a diverse mix of grazing land, crop land, orchards, wetlands and more.

True or False: Contractions of smooth muscles are voluntary. It happens with your control.
andrey2020 [161]

Answer:

False

Explanation:

Smooth muscle is under autonomic nervous system control (which is something you cannot consciously control). Same thing is for cardiac muscle.

The only thing you can control is skeletal muscle like your hands and feet.
