Japanese immigration to the US dropped off sharply by 1910. The Japanese government agreed to stop immigration meant for the US in the US agreed to prevent discrimination against Japanese in the US. 

Japanese were being segregated in schools and violence was occurring against them. The Gentlemen's Agreement provided safety for those already in the US but also stopped the flow of Japanese laborers into the US directly or through other countries with the end of the US as the goal. </span>
