Read the excerpt from We’ve Got a Job by Cynthia Levinson. Meanwhile, Wash had arrived at Kelly Ingram Park to watch. "[W]e saw

those people willingly turn themselves over to the police . . .,” he said. His reaction: "Wow, they must be crazy.” Experience had taught Wash that "the police was vicious murderers.” He knew how much pain they could inflict on young black bodies—as Arnetta discovered the next day. What does the author’s use of Wash’s quotes help readers understand? 1) that wash was curious about the marchers after all 2) that wash wished he had marched with the others 3) that wash hoped the arrested students would not be hurt 4) that wash had terrible experiences dealing with the police

Answer: 4

Explanation: The first two quotes used show Walsh's apprehension about the people turning themselves in, and the last confirms that this apprehension is because of bad past experiences.

Is the underlined clause independent or subordinate? I read a novel until the guests arrived.
Zarrin [17]
We can't see underlining here, but here, I think this will be helpful:

"I read a novel" would be the intependent clause: it does not need the other one to be complete.

"until the guests arrived" is the subordinate clause: it needs the independent, main clause to be complete.
